Rescuing my friend : by Rohit Paranjape

Ahoy there! I am Alfred the alligator. I am three years old. I’m........... ok, there’s no time to describe myself because I’ve got to go to the rescue my friend Andy (he‘s an alligator too)  He had gone out one day to do a little exploration and had not come back. I knew that I had to travel through the bear world,  the desert ,and the dense forest  in order to  find Andy.

As I prayed to God to help me, an angel came with a message. It read:

“YOU HAVE TO COLLECT THE LETTERS- Z, M, I, A ON YOUR WAY.”

“Why in the wide world?” I wondered. But then a clue was better than nothing!

I started my journey with plenty of things, rubber shoes, a jacket, a raincoat and lots of food and water. Trekking was my worst enemy, yet I had to do that for Andy’s sake. I travelled and travelled and reached the bear world.

I asked the baby bears for directions. I tell you the baby bear are so mischievous! They mislead me!  So by mistake I took the honey comb ways. I spent hours wandering here and there. Two-three times I came to the spot from I started. Luckily I found some patrins and followed them and came to the entrance. I started towards the Sahara desert. It was terribly  hot there. I was so thirsty that i had finished all my water.  this gave me a bad headache and I lost direction. I  rested for a while and wondered what to do.

Suddenly I saw a caravan of camels passing by. I waved to them wildly but they did not notice. I was helpless. I had set out on  an adventure to rescue my best friend and here I was lost...”
“Don’t worry”, said a weary but kind voice. I turned back and saw an old grandma camel. She introduced herself as Alice.

“How can you help me?” I asked. “I sell compasses,” she replied. What? She had come to me like an angel!  How foolish of me not to carry a compass. She sold the compass to me for 2 silver coins. It was very useful. I got back on the right track and then it was easy-peasy for me to find the way. I thought it would be easy to reach the forest by evening but as I had no water, and was dehydrated, I had to rest.

It was, I think midnight when something strange happened. I heard a noise. I opened my eye and saw a fountain and on top of that were two letters Z, M. Was I dreaming? Was this real? I pinched myself hard. I screamed at the top of my lungs. Aaaaaaaaaaa!!! This wasn’t a dream at all. Then I remembered the angel. “So I have to collect these letters, huh?” I said. But the force was too much. Gathering my courage, I tried to cover the hole with sand. But the fountain gulped down the sand. I realised  that whatever went into the fountain disappeared sooner or later. This time I put a lot of sand. The fountain was busy eating up the sand when I collected the letters.

Suddenly the hole grew bigger and unexpectedly I landed in the forest. There was a spring bubbling along besides me. So I drank to my heart’s content. When I walked a few yards I saw a .....fox, ready with a fork. His voice boomed... “I’ll place three mirrors, in one of them you will find the letters- I, A. You have you will have to go into the right mirror or you will go into my tummy. and don’t act smart, because I know everything.
I thought of a plan. It was the last step. Then Andy and me. I started to speak rapidly.
“You think you know everything?” “Yes.” How many windows does the Hawa Mahal have? “240.” What’s the collective noun crows?” “Murder.” What is my friend’s name? “Andy.” Where will I get him? “Here.” said the fox  and pointed to the second mirror. “Thank you.” Oh nooooo.”

Andy came out with the letters. I gave him a bear hug. Andy told me that the wicked  fox had captured him and wanted to know the  way to Alligatornia, because he wanted to rule there. “I gave a firm no, so this happened.” said Andy.  “By the way why do you carry all those letters?”
“I was told to.” I replied.

“But how do we  get back to Alligatornia?” Andy asked. We thought and thought. Andy came up with the idea of repeating the letters in the alphabetical order.

AMIZ. AMIZ AMIZ. A sudden glow surrounded us  and we were back in Alligatornia.

3012 by Tanay Arora

This was written by Tanay as a response to the prompt : The doorbell rang. I opened the door and....

3012
Tanay Arora

The doorbell rang. I opened the door and to my surprise, I found myself looking at a skyscraper under my house. The door of my house was on the outer side of the skyscraper. I felt my stomach do a sickening somersault. The person who had rung my doorbell was a mail man. I was so surprised to see him flying outside the door that I fainted.

When I woke up I was in a totally different house. A young man came to me. He looked a lot like me. He said that his name was Alex and that he was my grandson! I was very puzzled by all this. The first question that came to my mind was, “Where am I?”

Alex told me that I was in the year 3012. He said that recently a group of scientists had succeeded in making a time machine and he and a few others had been assigned to test it.

One of them had accidentally directed a small asteroid towards the earth. This had enough power to wipe out our compound. To save me and all the others, we had been transported to the future. Alex gave me a tour of the future Earth. I saw everyone either walking or cycling except for a few. These people were flying using non polluting flying shoes.

Alex also said that there were machines that produced oxygen and this had helped humans survive. In the markets, I saw new gadgets that depended on new technology that I was unfamiliar with.

I stayed there for a few hours. Then Alex said that the asteroid had been stopped and that I could go home. Sadly all that I had seen would have to be erased from my memory and then…..then…..what happened? What am I doing in bed so late?

A dragon in the bathtub

This was a session in which the students were given a prompt and had to continue the story. The following is a story written by one of my students who is just ten years old.

Dragon in a bathtub

Paul was late for school. He ran into the bathroom to brush his teeth and tripped over something.  A long, thick green tail was hanging out of the bathtub. Paul pulled the shower curtain back, and there was a dragon! A dragon in the bath tub!

Paul stared at the dragon. The dragon gave him a dirty look. “Do you mind?” said the dragon. “I’m trying to take a bath!”

Paul had to do something quick! He stepped back. “What are …..you doing…here?” Paul choked the words out. “I will ….call the cops on you.”

The dragon grinned and said, “Would you? I have come to tour the earth with some of my dragon friends. But unfortunately I got separated from them.” As the dragon spoke these words a puff of smoke erupted from his nose.

The dragon slowly emerged from the bathtub. Paul could see its whole body now. The dragon’s skin was scaly with some soap still on it. It had huge claws which could slice almost anything. It smelled like raw fish and seaweed. The dragon had a huge horn on its head and its teeth were as sharp as knives and it looked as if it might have a huge bite force!

The dragon came towards Paul and said, “Will you take me for a tour of the earth? I have wings” “Y…yes” Paul managed to say. “Sit on my back and we can leave!” said the dragon excitedly.

“First, we will go and see the pyramids of Egypt,” said Paul.

The dragon soared through the air and pointed at food stalls to stop for a break through out the journey. When the two of them reached the pyramids, they went into one and flew to the top of another.

They were on top of a pyramid talking, when suddenly the dragon sneezed and fire erupted from his nose. The pyramid was on fire!

They flew away as fast as they could. “I want to go home!” wailed the dragon.

Then suddenly a much bigger dragon appeared from nowhere and said, “I see food!”

The other dragon looked a bit like Paul’s dragon, but it was a lot more ferocious. It had bloodshot eyes and its skin was a very dark shade of black. The dragon had rows of sharp teeth.

It roared and charged at Paul, but Paul steered his dragon out of the other dragon’s way. Paul and his dragon fought fiercely, but they were no match for their enemy. Just then a group of dragons came and chased the bad dragon away.

“Thank you for saving our friend,” said a red dragon who looked like their leader. “I hope our little friend here did not cause you any trouble.”

“Trouble!” yelled Paul. “This dragon which you call small, almost got me killed!”

“It will not happen again,” said the red dragon. “We are going back home.”

“Goodbye!” said Paul and the dragons flew back to where they came from.

“I flew on a dragon and burned a pyramid in one day!” muttered Paul. “What a day!”

The Slimy Slow Green

One evening after my studies, I sat down to watch television. Suddenly the door bell rang. I hesitated to open the door as my parents had gone out. However, I made an effort and opened the door. Swoosh! In came a creature dressed in slimy green. I was so scared, that I ran to my room. The creature followed me.

In a shaky voice I asked, "Who are you and why have you come to my house?"

The creature said, "I am a Slimy Slow Green and I have come from a place which is a secret." I asked the creature if it wanted some water to drink. It replied that it did not drink water. It only drank something called "apple boggle". I wondered what apple boggle was. The creature saw an apple in the fruit basket on the table and said, " Apple boggle is the liquid form of apple."

I went into the kitchen and made some apple juice for the creature. As I sat near it, I felt that the creature's behaviour was like someone known to me. The Slimy Slow Green then looked at the clock and said, "Oh no! I'd better hurry. Your mom is waiting for me. We had planned to go shopping."

When I heard this, I realized that the creature was in fact my dad! I ran towards him and wiped his face clean. He laughed and said,"You caught me! I am sorry if I frightened you."

Till today I feel like laughing whenever I think of my dad as the Slimy Slow Green!
